Infusing natural skincare products with aromatic plants—Infusion oil recipes
Share
Plant-infused oils are like the essence of plants, allowing the beneficial components of the plant to slowly infuse into the oil. From Europe to the East, infused oils have always been an essential household item for women. They can be used in cooking, provide relief when feeling unwell, and every drop is filled with a mother's love.
There are two ways to make infused oils: hot extraction and cold extraction.
The hot extraction method involves cutting the plant into small pieces and placing them in hot vegetable oil at a temperature between 50 and 70 degrees Celsius. After heating for 2 to 3 hours, the mixture is filtered.

The cold extraction method involves placing the plant directly into the oil, sealing the container, and storing it in a cool, dark place for about four weeks. During this process, gently shake the bottle daily to ensure that all the plant is coated with oil.

If you are not in a hurry to use it, it is recommended to use the cold extraction method. It is simple, convenient, and the quality of the oil after soaking will be more stable .
Finally, filter out all the herbs from the soaked oil and it's ready to use.
Do not leave a small amount of vanilla in the oil for aesthetic reasons, as dried vanilla that is not coated in oil is prone to bacterial growth when exposed to air .
If everyone understands the basic principles, you can prepare the soaking materials and enough oil to begin.
However, there are still other precautions to take before soaking:
- When bottling, ensure the plant is completely submerged in the vegetable oil to prevent mold growth.
- Make sure the plants are dry, as moisture will cause the soaking process to fail.
- You must use a sterilized and clean transparent glass bottle so that you can observe the changes in the soaking oil.
- The oil used for infusion must be a liquid oil (coconut oil, shea butter, etc. are not suitable).
- If the infused oil is for edible purposes or making handmade soap, choose food-grade oils that are readily available; if the infused oil is mainly for skin use, choose skincare-grade oils.
- If you choose vanilla powder to make infused oil, you must ensure that the powder does not contain sugar or other ingredients.
Finally, let's talk about the ratio of infused ingredients to oil:
